After the war ends, the American government believes that war-torn Japan is ripe for Communism.

Mitsubishi made the Zero aircraft used to attack Pearl Harbor. At first, America wants to destroy the giant Japanese company. But America fears that without major industry, economically poor Japan may become a communist country. That leads to Mitsubishi's shift in its business model, giving the world Mitsubishi cars, trucks and consumer goods.

Not wanting that to happen, the giant Japanese 'war machine' factories are allowed to convert themelves to smaller 'peace machine' factories.
